UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed)
- What it means – The UKCA mark is the new British conformity marking for products placed on the market in Great Britain (England, Wales and Scotland). It replaced the CE mark after Brexit. This mark confirms that a product meets UK standards for safety, health and environmental protection.
- Scope – It applies to most products that previously required the CE mark, such as toys, electrical and electronic devices, machinery, and personal protective equipment.
- When it’s required – From 1 January 2025, the UKCA mark becomes the only legally recognised conformity mark for products sold in England, Scotland and Wales, although some products may still show the CE mark.
- Standards compliance – The UKCA marking is based on compliance with UK regulations, which are often modelled on EU laws but may differ in some areas.
- Declaration of conformity – A separate UK Declaration of Conformity must be prepared. This document is different from the EU Declaration of Conformity.
- Northern Ireland – The Northern Ireland market follows separate rules. Depending on the situation, products may need the CE mark, the UKNI mark, or both.
- Responsibility – Placing the UKCA mark on a product means that the manufacturer or their authorised representative takes full responsibility for ensuring the product complies with UK regulations.
