CE (Communauté Européenne)

  • What it means – The CE mark shows that the manufacturer declares the product meets the European Union’s legal requirements for safety, health and environmental protection (including the RED Directive).
  • When it’s required – Many products sold in the European Union and the European Economic Area (EEA) must carry the CE mark by law.
  • How it’s done – Before adding the CE mark, the manufacturer must check that the product meets all relevant standards. This can be done either by the manufacturer themselves or with help from a notified body (an independent certification organisation).
  • Who can add it – Only the manufacturer or their authorised representative is allowed to place the CE mark on the product.
